Research and Technology Development (RTD) across the Group
In parallel with mainstream product development, companies within the Fretwell-Downing Group have been involved since 1993 in a number of leading edge RTD projects and implementation groups in wide area services, distributed information management and learning technologies through UK Department of Trade & Industry, Higher Education Funding Council and European Framework Programme initiatives. Fretwell-Downing has been/is Lead partner in a number of these undertakings, indicating significant project management capability and pan-European collaborative experience.
Pre-competitive work has been particularly valuable for three reasons:
- to develop leading edge standards-based solutions in advance of commercial requirements with strong input from the potential user community
- to forge key relationships with both users, lead bodies and advanced suppliers
- to ensure the company’s ability to sustain a continuous stream of lead edge software development and refinement leading to productisation
